What do you do when you reached the point where you can’t stand your job any longer? Do you immediately resign? This matter is difficult to deal with, especially when you are faced with tons of bills to pay. With massive layoffs looming as a result of recession, you must think twice and hold back any thoughts of quitting your job. Here are some points to ponder:

Set your own priorities. No matter how much you dislike or hate your job right now, try to open your eyes to the fact that happiness is what you make it. By setting your own goals on a daily or weekly basis, you already empower yourself toward achieving something you anticipate.

Do it step-by-step. As you wake up every morning, target to accomplish one goal for the day. You don’t need to get all on your list done within 24 hours. Relieve yourself by feeling good about your progress when you look back at what you have accomplished little by little.

Spend a moment of solitude. Get some minutes of silence upon waking up. As much as possible, do not get into the habit of going to work when you are stressed and exhausted. It will only make your life worse.

Do your favorite things. This can be listening to music from your iPod, reading the morning newspaper, going out for lunch, using a new picture as your computer screensaver, or anything under the sun that will brighten your mood for the rest of the day.

Learn new skills. While you are in a job that you’ve grown to dislike, take advantage of the opportunity to learn something new. Try a new skill on your computer or read a good book on management during break time. Grab the best choice for self-improvement.

Unwind a little bit. Do some activities that can help you unwind and remove your tension. This might involve walking home, sketching on a paper, or playing a musical instrument. These help you clear your mind from miserable thoughts.

Do not lower your performance standards. Despite the situation you are currently in, it is still important to maintain your job performance. Always do well at work for the accomplishments you make will earn rewards for you later on.

Do not burn bridges. Try to maintain positive relationships and contact with co-workers, both past and present. They can be able to help by providing you with references. Whatever unhappy thoughts or experiences you had with your company, remember that this, too, shall pass. Be in charge of your choices to make a better future for yourself.

The job market has become extremely competitive especially in today’s fast-faced environment. All it takes to get ahead is to seriously make a plan. This must not be a mere hasty plan, but a comprehensive well-thought plan. This must help you have a sense of direction and motivation. Do not be reluctant to develop a set of goals merely due to fear of failure. People must develop strategies to stay in the competition and be ready for a career shift that can occur abruptly.

There are four important things to do in pursuing a successful career change:

Take control of your goals. You alone can change your life’s direction toward attaining a meaningful career. Be aware of the career choices that fit you perfectly. Do not just accept suggestions from people around you. Do not accept any job that is available at the moment. Listen to your inner conscience.

Be involved with your career. Talk to your family, friends, and experienced people about the kind of career you have in mind. Listen to what they have to say if you really wish to change yourself into someone they are not familiar with. Explore your chosen career through research and interviews. Equip yourself with more knowledge and information and become an expert in your profession.

Find middle ground. Seek new opportunities and appraise your career options in a reasonable manner. This will help you become aware by seeing the bigger picture of your overall situation in the workplace. If the need comes, however, be open to the possibility of making certain sacrifices. Sacrifices can give wonderful rewards as long as the reason for doing it is credible and reliable.

Set specific targets. To keep yourself motivated, create short-term goals that are easy to achieve, as well as long-term goals that will take an extensive period of time. Scrutinize each item on your list and arrange them accordingly. Be flexible to review and revise goals to adapt to current situations.

It may seem difficult at first. But a career change can be done successfully if you are guided accordingly. Stay focus on your goals amid potential risks and challenges that will deter your intention to take on a whole new career and a whole new perspective.

Unemployment rate has drastically increased at the present time. This is something unavoidable considering the current global financial crisis. Countless numbers of well-established companies are forced to downsize and trim down the number of their employee in order to impede the drastic effects it can pose to the business.

There are thousands of competitive employees who were booted out from their respective positions due to this crisis. This process is not easy for any employer; however, to save the company from a more delirious effect of recession, they were obliged to trim down the number of their employees.

Out of work and being unemployed can trigger a number of negative effects on ourselves and on our families respectively. This situation can create psychological, mental and financial effects. An additional burden is the tight employment market. This condition is such a dilemma that cannot be easily resolved in just a few days or months.

Global recession has certainly increased the number of unemployed individuals. We can no longer deny the detrimental effects of this dilemma to each and every household. There are countless instances showing that most employees who have been laid off from their previous work were elders; who have worked for almost a decade in the company. Most of these individuals will find it difficult to look for another work; either in the same industry or in other field.

The mere thought of leaving a workplace you have learned to love and served for a number of years is quite disheartening, how much more if this is happening to you in reality. With a very tight employment market and the presence of new graduates, competition for a single job opening will surely soar up high.

Unemployment, in some way, can help you decide what career to choose. It can also allow you to take some rest and restrain your mindset and goals in life; this also a chance for you to indulge yourself on establishing a business or create productive activities which will allow you to explore new things and appreciate life. This is in one way only applicable to a few numbers of individuals who have received sufficient earnings.
But in reality, a huge number of individuals who were laid off will not consider relaxing and exploring new things; they will rather push and strive hard to find a new and a much stable source of income. Under this circumstance, they will start all over again, from scratch, basically back to zero. This situation may sound exaggerated, but in every job seeking process, every jobseeker will undergo same processes, whether you are armed with a number of work experiences or a newly graduate.

Job hunting ways will certainly require investment: time, effort, and money. Fortunately, you can save huge amounts of money on job hunting if you know the basic tips on effective resume writing and etiquettes needed in job interviews. An effective, compelling and impressive type of resume will save you from spending too much. With this kind of resume, you can have greater chances to be invited for an interview; which basically means that employers are considering you for the vacant position.

When invited for an interview, you must be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared to any tricky questions they might ask you. You must also reflect an image that you have created on your resume. This will give you greater chances to be hired by the company. In addition to these basic tips on job hunting, you must also search for companies that will make use of your potential skills and competencies. It is a fact that not all business establishments are seeking new employees. Better look for opportunities that will not only utilize your potentials, but will also hone and enhance your other competencies.

Under normal circumstances, it is really difficult to look for a new job; however, if you will put a lot of effort, hard work, patience and most especially a positive attitude, nothing can ever go wrong. Always possess a positive perspective in everything you do, and sooner than you think, you will find a new profession that is especially made for you.

Networking is almost the same as connection or making links. It is one of the most effective means of finding a new job. This often allows you to tap the hidden or unadvertised job markets. If you do not network, you would will miss the chances to get opportunities offered by this type of employment strategy.

It is somewhat disgusting to think that sometimes, the way to get a job is by having a “connection.”. And it is even more frustrating when you know that you are more qualified than the one who was hired. But because he knows “someone,”, he got the job.

This applies the saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” It sounds cliché, but true. And it is now the basis for a networking strategy.

But, when talking about such things, there are many different ways on how to be a part of a network when seeking for a job. According to Krannich (1996), t

There are four types of networks available for a job seeker: Personal, Organizational, Community, and Electronic (Krannich, 1996):

Personal
It is probably the most intimate network among all. It is because this one has a personal interaction. This network is made up of the people that you know and with whom you interact. It includes family, friends, relatives, acquaintances, current or former co-workers, your doctor, your dentist, and many others. The most possible way of getting a job vacancy is through word-of-mouth recommendations. It is often through this kind of network that you would can get referrals.

Making others aware that you are looking for a job is one way of networking. Your friend might know 10 people, who also know 10 other people who could can most likely help you land on a job. That’s the process of personal networking.

The way of the world is meeting people through other people. ~ Robert Kerrigan

Organizational
There are different organizations which that you could can join to meet and get acquainted with professionals or other people who have the same interests or career as yours. This could can further help you land on a job which is based on your qualifications. Some examples of groups these are civic groups, sororities, or even religious groups. Join in their activities and start your way to your dream job.!

Community
Some communities have projects in relationrelated to job hunting. There are local employment services and job listings as part of their initiatives in the reduction, if not total elimination of unemployment. Specific government agencies of different countries are also inclined with to providing provide opportunities for business and employment to those qualified applicantsindividuals. You have to take the time to going to their office or calling them about postings regarding on job vacancies. In this way, you would will have an idea on the recent posts in their latest bulletin.

Electronic
This is the latest newest form of networking. In this type you could can actually do all the mentioned types of networking. Except from meeting someone face to facepersonally, you cancould do personal networking by browsing some social networking sites where you could can meet new friends and find the old ones. You could can also join and get involved with online organizations. Just be careful in choosingwith your choices. Select organizations which that you think could can help you find a job and help you grow professionally. In terms of looking for a job, there are advertisements in on the Internet about new job vacancies. Some sites are dedicated to providing jobs for the people. You just only sometimes have to sign up and post your resume.

Whether you choose to apply one or all of the abovementioned types of networking in your job hunting activity, the most important thing is still maintaining your network. Just iIn case you will need to find a new job, it would will be easier for you to go back to your network link, as well as contact those people again for new job information.

But still in, when you are doing this, you have to be ready for some unsolicited or unexpected calls and invitations for interview. To do this, you have to update your resume and prepare yourself very well, so that. w So that wWhen companies contact you or showed interest in knowing your skills and qualifications, you are will bealready prepared and would will not cram in preparing getting the necessary documents ready. that This mightmay lead to rejection. You may not be able to land the job at all, even if you have the best resume and you are fully qualified for the position.

Rumormongers and office saboteurs – they exist and lurk around the workplace. Actually, in almost every company or business organization, whether big or small, favoritism and internal power struggles emerge. Issues regularly circulate to spread dissatisfaction and destroy the unity of people. How do you deal with this annoying situation? Instead of dabbling with books about the art of manipulating people, what you need to do is to learn how to withstand the pressure and stay afloat above troubled waters. The following are some tips to consider:

Learn when and how to listen and cut gossips

As much as you want to avoid the gossip mills in the office, colleagues around you might still try to pull you into joining conversations that are loaded with nothing, but plain rumors. On the other hand, it can be wise to keep yourself within the circle of information. This can be a learning experience where you get to understand certain unwritten laws that have mysteriously remained untold for a long time. Listening to rumors is not bad at all, for as long as you don’t contribute to its proliferation by making subjective remarks out of mere hearsays. When the topic is about conflicting parties or rivalries, avoid getting too involved with either side by politely walking away. Taking sides will make you appear as a co-conspirator to the other party. Of course, you don’t want to be a target of mudslinging.

Be certain of favoritism

You are working very hard, but your boss gives special assignments to a co-worker. Managers have their own biases and practice partisanship. In this case, you may easily assume that you are a victim, especially if you think that a certain decision is not favorable to you. The tip is to take the initiative by openly telling to your supervisor about your interest in accepting special additional tasks. Do not lash out to him or her by crying foul on the issue of favoritism for which you do not have basis. He or she may not have observed your qualities or may be simply waiting for you to take the initiative. Avoid sour graping by overcoming feelings of frustration. Focus on further developing your skills.

How to recognize a rival

Do you have a colleague who seems to be doing something to make you look bad? If they are intentionally undermining your efforts to get ahead, it may be a sign of rivalry. How do you deal with him or her? You may opt to confront the person and question his or her actions. Do this matter-of-factly rather than in an accusatory approach. Avoid being emotional, but rather focus on the facts when stressing a point. Do not fail to listen to the other side. If this doesn’t help in patching up the conflict, try this second option. Document their actions, gather evidence to support your claims, and demonstrate how they affect or hamper your work performance. Then bring the matter to the attention of your supervisor. But make sure to do this in an objective and professional posture.

A recent survey claimed that job dissatisfaction among workers is high and increasing. The phenomenon is so prevalent that it encompasses a wide range of age groups and income brackets. It reported that approximately half of them are satisfied, while the other half is not. In recent years, overall satisfaction rates have sharply declined, with about 40 to 50 percent of workers saying they will change their line of work if there is a better opportunity.

How is this happening and why? We must understand that job satisfaction has two different aspects. The first one is “intrinsic job satisfaction.” This occurs when workers consider only the kind of work they do and their whole job position. The second is “extrinsic job satisfaction.” This occurs when workers take all aspects of their working conditions, including the salaries and benefits received, as well as their relationships with co-workers and the supervisor. These two are different, but interrelated. If the dissatisfaction is due to the kind of work, it is called “intrinsic,” but if it is due to work conditions, it is “extrinsic.”

In this case, different aspects call for different solutions. If the kind of work you are doing increases your dissatisfaction, maybe you must consider changing your career. But if the conditions of work dissatisfy you more and more, the most feasible solution is to negotiate with your supervisors and co-workers. You may also consider changing companies, but stay within the same line of industry.

What do you expect to get from your job? Is it money, fame, or independence? Why are they important to you? Sizing up job satisfaction actually means evaluating your job expectations. This involves the things that people are looking for or require from a specific job position. This is reason why there are some people who have higher expectations compared to others.

Is there anything that dissatisfied workers can do to stop this problem? To maximize job satisfaction, experts suggest the following:

First, know what is important to you. It means being clear about what you really want and how you want to get it. Examine your values. Put your thoughts in proper perspective.

Second, identify occupations that fit you right. It means acquiring the correct information about jobs that correspond to your personality.

Third, consult a professional career coach. If you are confused on which path to take, you may need to talk to somebody who knows about what you are going through at present.

Fourth, resolve your dissatisfaction. Do not allow depression, anxiety, worry, tension, and interpersonal problems haunt you for so long because these may lead to problems such as job loss, accidents, or mental illness. Immediately but patiently look for a solution to your unhappiness at the workplace.

References are known as the last part of a resume.
References are known as the last part of a resume. Oftentimes, applicants unconsciously inscribe the clause “references available upon request” which may give the wrong impression that he/she cannot put any reference. You do not need to write the references in the resume. Just be ready with your list.

Although good references may be hard to get, be reminded that human resource managers really take time to investigate the applicant. So don’t put names of politicians (who may not know their names are used) or relatives (because obviously they’ll be biased) as your references.

Instead, a good choice of references will be the dean or any faculty member from your previous school, a leader of the community or perhaps a former employer. Remember the criteria: the person should know the applicant well—that is, his or her professional background and work attitude.

In listing down your references, do not forget the following: one, complete name of the reference; two, business address or residence of such reference; and three, telephone of such reference, preferably a landline.

As you hope that you get hired sooner or later, get yourself ready to be scrutinized.

High-impact accomplishments statements found in resumes is what make job-seekers’ qualifications sell. Employers are in fact looking for proven track record of accomplishments instead of those who perform only basic job functions.

Accomplishments are actually the key to increase recruiters’ interest which will eventually lead to a request for a job interview.

Thus, it is advisable not to use expressions like “Duties included,” “Responsibilities included,” or “Responsible for”. Instead, flaunt how you have helped previous employers to make or save money, solve a specific problem, build strong customer base, and expand their business.

There are some job-seekers who isolate their list of accomplishments from duties/responsibilities when detailing job functions. If you label only certain items as “accomplishments”, readers might assume that other items listed are not accomplishments.

However, you must ensure that the listed accomplishments support your career goals.

Resume is the most important tool in job hunting. It is a jobseeker’s ‘brochure’ and ‘initial point of sales material’. Therefore, you should be extra careful—and more importantly, factual—when writing your resume. You must take into consideration that hiring managers receive a hundred of resumes every day and that they only scan and ‘judge’ your resume in three to five seconds. If your resume fails to catch their attention in such a short span, you can kiss your hiring chances—or your career—good bye! It is best that before sending it to your prospective employers, you must check—and double check—every thing that is written in your resume.

How then do hiring managers assess your resume at a glance? What do they look for in a resume for it to easily land in the trash can? Here is the list:

Poor grammar, typographical and spelling errors

Focus on job descriptions rather than accomplishments

Inaccuracy of dates, or missing dates

Missing contact info, or inaccurate or unprofessional email addresses

Poor formatting

Functional resumes

Long resumes

Long, dense paragraphs; no bullet points

Candidate applying for position he/she is not qualified for

Include personal information not related to the job

No employer information

Lying, misleading, especially about educational attainment, dates and inflated titles

Meaningless introductions or objectives

Poor font choice

Resumes sent in formats other than “word”, faxed, web page resumes and mailed resumes

Existence of pictures, graphics or URL links

No easy-to-follow summary

Resumes written in first or third person

Gaps in employment

Bury important information in the resume

If you want to have the best resume, you may want to consider hiring a professional resume writer to avoid being in the list. Remember your resume can make or break your career. Why should you care about spending money? After all, resume is your ticket to the bright future awaiting you.
Hiring a professional writer to do your resume will definitely improve your chances of receiving invitation for interview. They are knowledgeable that they spend quality time in constructing your resume. Resume writing is an art. They have mastered this art to help you land up with a plum job.

Today’s job market is increasingly competitive that a jobseeker should display aggressiveness in his overall job search campaign. How is that possible? Present the best resume. But what is the definition of a best resume? Really, the answers are endless, but one fact still remains—resume is your career-marketing document that you should try developing in its highest standard possible.

The window of opportunity opens in as little as 10 seconds, yet no matter how short the given time is for your resume to spark the readers’ attention, you should grab the chance given to you by portraying your expertise and overall value offered.
Forget about tasked-based resume with an inventory of a position’s responsibilities that is coupled with a standard (and boring list of personal aptitudes. What is in nowadays, especially to the hiring managers, is an achievement/accomplishment driven resume that tells you are a pro-active candidate that demands results and demonstrates the significant value on offer to the organization.
So what are the strategies to come up with the best resume that would promote your overall value and portrays you as a passionate contributor the ongoing success of the company that demands an employment interview? Here’s some of the unending list:

Include a brief career profile that summarizes your skills and highlights your accomplishments. This tells the reader what you can deliver—rather than what you want.

Use industry-related key words as well as action words that will surely grab the reader’s attention. For instance: orchestrated, devised, instructed, spearheaded, maximized, led, directed, streamlined, oversaw, managed, motivated, controlled, delegated, consolidated, generated, implemented, proposed, specified, etc.

Specify the challenges you overcame; the action or solution you undertook to alleviate the challenge; and the (quantifiable) result, and script into a powerfully written statement.

Be consistent in your resume formatting. Make sure your overall document is well structured (plenty of white space), and attractive.

Generally, include only the positions you had the last five to 10 years (if the position being applied for is relevant to what you have been doing), with a maximum of about 15 years.

Edit. Edit. Edit.
